CIBC FIRSTCARIBBEAN PROVIDES FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF SCHOOL FURNITURE FROM ONE SCHOOL IN NETHERLANDS TO THE OTHER IN CURAÇAO

Willemstad, Curacao December 10, 2017 – One school in Curacao with a definite need has benefitted from the generosity of another in The Netherlands which found itself with a surplus of school furniture.

As a result, the elementary school Morgenster in Sleeuwijk recently donated no less than 450 nearly-new pieces of school furniture (chairs and tables) to the elementary school Sint Margaretha College in Curaçao. CIBC FirstCaribbean was on hand to provide assist with the transportation of the furniture from Europe to the Caribbean.

The project was coordinated by Mr. Bert Ruiter and Mrs. Willemien Ruiter, both retired teachers on the island.

All this effort culminated when the container carrying the furniture was opened and the excited kids at St. Margaretha College took their first look at their new school furniture.

The furniture became available due to merging of the Morgenster elementary school into a new concept of combined elementary schools in the Netherlands, which meant their current furniture was no longer needed. The furniture and other useful school supplies were all loaded by about 20 volunteers in a 40 ft shipping last month. The transportation was coordinated by Stichting Help de Schoolkinderen van Curaçao at the request of the PTA of the St. Margaretha College. This foundation has coordinated the transportation of several such donations from schools in the Netherlands to schools in Curaçao. The ship left Rotterdam took nearly a month to get to Curaçao.

CIBC FirstCaribbean, when approached to provide for the transportation, gladly cooperated given their understanding of the value of an inspiring classroom and the joy it brings to the kids getting their education.

“We are very glad to contribute to this initiative. Besides the fact that this very noble initiative combines efforts of several parties in achieving something very essential, namely an inspiring educational environment, it fills ours hearts with satisfaction to see the joy on the faces of the children when they saw their new furniture. It brought joy to our faces too!

We commend Mr. and Mrs. de Ruiter, the elementary school Sleeuwijk, Stichting Help de Schoolkinderen van Curaçao and the PTA for this fantastic project. CIBC FirstCaribbean is delighted to be part of it.” Mrs. Lysaira Ortela, Marketing Manager CIBC FirstCaribbean Curaçao said.
